At Turtle Traffic, community isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we act on. From keeping WA’s roads safe to supporting the people and causes that matter, everything we do is driven by purpose. And this year, that purpose took us to the pool.
We’re proud to share how Turtle Traffic founder and owner Ken Stratton led our team to raise an incredible $3,629 through the Starlight Children’s Foundation Super Swim — a fundraiser that’s now helping over 90 sick kids across Australia experience a little more joy during some of the toughest moments of their lives.
A Cause Close to Ken’s Heart
For Ken Stratton, giving back has never been about optics — it’s a core part of how he leads Turtle Traffic and how he lives.
When Ken first came across the Starlight Super Swim, it resonated immediately.
“I’ve always admired the work the Starlight Foundation does,” says Ken. “What they do for kids in hospital — helping them feel joy during what’s often the toughest time of their lives — is nothing short of heroic.”
His motivation goes beyond admiration, though. Ken has seen firsthand the emotional toll serious illness takes on children and families — and he knows that medical treatment alone isn’t enough.
“It’s not just about the medical treatment — it’s about the emotional toll. The programs Starlight runs, from Captain Starlight visits to the Starlight Express Rooms, genuinely help kids find happiness again. That’s powerful.”
With that, Ken set his sights on the Super Swim challenge — and brought the whole Turtle Traffic team along with him.
Taking on the Super Swim Challenge
The Super Swim isn’t a casual fundraiser. Participants commit to swimming as many kilometres as possible over several weeks, funding their effort through sponsorships and community support. It’s physically demanding, early-morning-alarm demanding, and on the coldest days — willpower demanding.
Ken set an ambitious personal distance goal and rallied the team around him. Some jumped in the water alongside him. Others helped coordinate fundraising activities and spread the word through their networks. Everyone played a part.
“It was amazing to see how everyone got involved,” Ken says. “We had early morning swims, weekend sessions, and even a few chilly dips that tested our resolve. But knowing what we were doing it for kept us going.”
The result? $3,629 raised — exceeding their original target — with contributions pouring in from colleagues, clients, friends, and family all across Perth and beyond.
Why the Starlight Children’s Foundation Super Swim Matters
The Starlight Children’s Foundation has been transforming the hospital experience for seriously ill children since 1988. Through creativity, play, and positive distraction, Starlight helps kids feel like kids — even when their world has been turned upside down.
Funds raised through the Super Swim go directly toward programs including:
- Captain Starlight Visits — Specially trained performers who bring laughter and entertainment directly to children in hospital wards
- Starlight Express Rooms — Dedicated, medical-free spaces where kids can play, relax, and simply be themselves
- Wish Granting — Making meaningful dreams come true for seriously ill children across Australia
Every $39 gives one child access to a Starlight experience. Turtle Traffic’s $3,629 means more than 90 children will receive that gift.
The Impact Beyond the Pool
The Super Swim did more than raise funds — it brought the Turtle Traffic team closer together. Shared early mornings, shared goals, and a shared sense of purpose created something that no team-building exercise could manufacture.
It also sent a clear message to our clients and partners: Turtle Traffic is more than a traffic management company. We’re a team of people who genuinely care about the communities we work in — across Perth, Albany, and everywhere in between.
“It reminded me that the smallest actions can have big impacts,” Ken reflects. “Whether it’s donating $10 or swimming a kilometre, every bit counts. And when people come together, that’s when the real magic happens.”
What’s Next for Turtle Traffic
The Super Swim has lit a fire. The Turtle Traffic team is already planning future community and charitable initiatives, including:
- More team-based fundraisers and community events throughout the year
- Continued support for the Starlight Children’s Foundation
- Hands-on volunteering opportunities for staff across WA
As Ken puts it: “Business is important, but giving back — that’s what fuels us. At Turtle Traffic, we want to grow with heart. And we want to bring our clients, friends, and community along on that journey.”
Thank You to Everyone Who Supported Us
To every person who donated, shared our story, or simply cheered us on — thank you. Your generosity proved that community spirit in Perth and across WA is very much alive.

“We might not be able to change the world overnight,” Ken says, “but we can do something. We can show up, we can support each other, and we can choose to care. And sometimes, that starts with putting on a pair of goggles and swimming a few laps.”
From all of us at Turtle Traffic — thank you for believing in something bigger.
